How do I help my wife who is dealing with postpartum depression?
I was wondering if you had any services in Vancouver WA. Also if you did any type of military discount. Also what is the best advice you can give to a father and husband away from his wife and newborn son with helping his wife deal with postpartum. Thank you very much.
We don't have services in Vancouver, WA. However, there is an agency in Portland, OR that I highly recommend. It is Care Giver's Placement Agency, phone number (503) 244-6370. I don't know if they give a military discount. It doesn't hurt to ask.
As far as your wife's postpartum depression - this is quite common with new mothers. I would tell her to contact a PEP's group in your area. She, or you, can go to this website http://www.pepsgroup.org/register-for-peps and register for a PEP's group in your area.
I know that new mothers are helped so much by other new mothers who are feeling the same types of things. Being a parent is hard work especially with a baby. Lack of sleep plays a big part in suffering from postpartum depression. Try to be as supportive as you can and let her know that this too shall pass. After the first 8 months to a year, life gets easier.
Best to you and your family,
Annie
